How I will achieve Integral Health

Due: 11/23/2010

Health and wellness is important for all individuals in the healthcare profession. Being able to have whole health and wellness will ensure that the healthcare professional can interpret it to the patients that they are treating. Health and wellness needs to be maintained in order for one to treat another person or give another person advice about health and wellness. Having a healthy mind allows the healthcare professional to be able to make proper diagnoses and treatment for the patient that needs to be treated. Being healthy physically will show the patients that it is important for all areas of your being to be healthy to maintain integral health. In my life I would need to improve the part of health that I consider extremely important and that is spiritual health, with this form of health one learns to cope with believing in something other than what they can see. They learn that there is a higher power.
My assessment of myself is fairly good, but I am working on it becoming much better. I have assessed my health in all domains over the last two months to find out that I am not completely healthy all over. My scoring when starting this class for spiritual health was around a 5, but after learning and growing I have moved up in this domain to about a 7.5. I am still working on getting closer to GOD and learning more about the way I am to present myself to show respect and belief in my spirituality. With that being said I still have not reached my goal in this domain as of yet. My scoring with physical wellness is an 8 I have lost major weight in the last year as well as I have learned the healthy ways of eating. When my physical wellness became healthy my psychological wellness became better intact. I have learned through this course that the two actually go hand and hand. If your psychological wellness is unbalanced then the other domains will not succeed wholeness as well. My psychological wellness today is about an 8 as well I have learned to meditate to help with the stress; I try not to allow unnecessary thoughts to flow through my mind at all.
I have many goals that I have set for myself when it comes to developing integral health. The first thing in my life that I am trying to get a better grip on is my spiritual wellness. My goal to obtain this is to being by learning and understanding more about the higher power. I will attempt to read the bible more, pray more and speak of his present to everyone I become in contact with. My psychological wellness goal is to let go and let GOD. This statement is one that I have strongly tried to go by in my everyday life. Once I can learn not to allow every little thing to take so much control over my life then my psychological wellness will become healthier. My physical goal is to maintain complete health all over. My physical appearance goal is to maintain the weight that I am no more and no less, just tone up what I have. My goals seem simple, but they are hard to reach with my everyday life, but I will do my best at making sure I reach atleast two out of three.
There are several strategies that could be used to foster all the domains of integral health. The strategies are simple it is just rather or not I will be able to implement them all in my life right now. One strategy that I would use to try and obtain through psychological wellness would be meditation. The practice of meditation for psychological wellness is great because you get to think of the things that have occurred and the things that should have taken place to make the situation less stressful and easier to handle. The practice of Loving-kindness is great for this form of wellness as well and is one of my favorite practices. One strategy that I will implement toward spiritual wellness would be learning, getting the knowledge that is needed to obtain this growth in my life. One practice that I will use would be subtle mind, learning how to calm the mind is key to this form of wellness. My strategy to physical wellness is to get more fit. Learn how to think healthy, believe in it and push forward to obtain it. I will use subtle mind and loving- kindness practice to make these strategies come to light.
In conclusion being able to make sure that I keep these goals in practice long term I have written them down. The fact that I have written them down and placed them on my bathroom mirror means that I will have to see them every morning when getting ready for work. If I am able to see what needs to take place I usually follow the path fairly well. Over the next six months I know definitely I will practice the subtle mind exercises because I love the idea of freeing my mind of nonsense. I also have written down the integral vow which I hope to learn to site verbatim so it will be inside my mind, and soul.

Unit 8

Review the exercises and practice sessions you have completed in this course. (Loving Kindness, Subtle mind, Visualization, meditation etc.) Choose two practices that you have determined to be most beneficial. How can you implement these practices in your personal life to foster “mental fitness”? Provide specific examples.

Hi everyone,

Being that I completed this question for unit 7 seminar written assignment and I strongly feel the way I do about the exercises that were discussed in this course so far, so I will share my answer to the question the I wrote with you all. My most beneficial exercises in this course was The Loving- Kindness, and Subtle Mind. I love them both. Now here is my answer I gave to the question above.
The first exercise that I truly love dearly is The Loving-Kindness exercise. This is exercise was one of the first exercises that caught my attention and really was beneficial for me and the ones around me. This exercise allowed me to be able to not only focus on my needs and the things that were dear to me, but also the things that were dear to others. In the profession I work in there are people that are on their last leg of life in their eyes and feel that there may not be anything else to live for. There are many people who I work with that are always complaining of different things some small some big that always seems to remember that there are some people less fortunate  right now in their lives.  I could use this exercise with the patients that comes through the clinic every day to help them focus on the big picture so they may obtain interpersonal flourishing, so that later they will be able to obtain human flourishing. My target group for this exercise in my profession would maybe the adolescent and elderly patients that we see every day. The reason for this group is because one group has maybe already known of these thoughts, but doesn’t know how to practice them to help them help themselves. The other group is to teach them the way they should think in there growth in life. In order to implement the form of exercise I may try and use it in the nutrition class that is taught to the diabetics at our clinic. I think these two groups will benefit from this practice because it helps with the way you think of life. The next exercise would be The Subtle Mind. This exercise is something that everyone should do daily. A healthy mind makes a healthy person complete. I may implement this exercise by allowing the patients to read about what it mean and then allowing them to practice to see rather it takes effect on them(Cobb,U,2010).

Unit 7 My feelings

2. Describe the saying: "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself” (P.477) How does this apply to the health and wellness professional? Do you have an obligation to your clients to be developing your health psychologically, physically, and spiritually? Why or why not? How can you implement psychological and spiritual growth in your personal life?

This particular saying is something that I feel in my heart is absolutely true. This saying is basically saying something that all people have heard all of there lives. Its like how can I take advise from you on something that you have never experienced before in your own life. I think that a person is only as wise and knowledgeable of the things that the have personally experienced and went through in there lives, or with someone close to them. This saying applies to health and wellness professionals because they have to have seen a situation, witnessed a situation, to be able to assets, assist, and treat what ever that has been put before them. I think that we all have obligations to our patients and clients in any business or profession that we are in. We has health care professionals are obligated in making sure that if one mental status seemed to be fussy and causing harm to there physical and spiritual body to get them to the best place to help them get better over all. My personal life has started to make a turn for the better since taking the class as far as spiritual and psychological. I have learned to come more acceptable of myself which has helped with my psychological being and starting to try and live by the things I know spiritually.
